Hyundai to Launch 4 New EVs for Mass Market – All Under Rs 20 Lakhs

Hyundai is gearing up for a bold expansion in India’s electric vehicle (EV) market. With plans to launch four new EVs under Rs 20 lakhs, Hyundai aims to capture a larger slice of the mainstream market. Alongside the highly anticipated Creta EV, the automaker is also working on an Inster-based EV and possibly all-electric versions of the Venue and Grand i10. These launches are set to boost Hyundai’s presence in the rapidly growing EV segment.

Hyundai Creta EV – What to Expect?

The Creta EV will be Hyundai's first big push into the compact SUV EV space. Competitors like Tata Curvv EV and MG ZS EV are already strong contenders in this segment, with upcoming models such as the BYD Atto 3 and Maruti eVX set to join the fray. Spy shots of the Creta EV suggest it will closely resemble its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, with minimal changes in design and interior features. This similarity could help Hyundai manage production costs while capitalizing on the Creta’s popularity.

The expected price range for the Creta EV is Rs 15-18 lakhs, undercutting rivals like the MG ZS EV (Rs 18.98 lakh) and BYD Atto 3 (Rs 24.99 lakh). It is anticipated to feature a 45-kWh battery pack, delivering a certified range of around 450 km (with a real-world estimate closer to 350 km). With 138 hp and 255 Nm of torque, the Creta EV will pack decent performance. An advanced regenerative braking system will further optimize its efficiency.

Inster-based EV

Following the Creta EV, Hyundai plans to introduce a localized version of the Inster EV, which is currently sold internationally. This new model will primarily compete with the Tata Punch EV, a key player in the compact EV space. Based on Hyundai’s E-GMP (K) platform, the Inster-based EV will likely arrive by the second half of 2026, offering competitive pricing to challenge the Punch EV (currently starting at Rs 9.99 lakh).

Venue EV and Grand i10 EV

Though yet to be confirmed, Hyundai is also exploring electric versions of the Venue and Grand i10 Nios. The Venue EV will be built on the next-gen ICE Venue, set to debut globally next year. Expected to follow the launch of the ICE model, the Venue EV will rival the Tata Nexon EV, India’s best-selling electric SUV, and Mahindra’s XUV300 EV.

Meanwhile, a Grand i10 Nios-based EV could target the compact EV market, competing with models like the Tata Tiago EV, which starts at Rs 7.99 lakh. If Hyundai proceeds with these models, it will further cement the brand’s dominance in the affordable EV market.

A Focus on Exports and Manufacturing Expansion

Hyundai is not just focusing on the Indian market; it plans to make India a key manufacturing hub for these mass-market EVs. Production targets for the Creta EV are set at 26,000 units, while the Inster-based EV is expected to reach 65,000 units annually. Many of these vehicles will be allocated for export, supported by Hyundai’s new manufacturing facility in Talegaon, near Pune.

With these ambitious plans and a pricing strategy tailored to the mass market, Hyundai is poised to play a major role in India’s EV revolution.
